Tucker Company Worldwide is America’s oldest privately held freight brokerage, and we have long prided ourselves in our track and trace procedures, thorough communication, and on-time pick-up and delivery performance. But, the dawn of the ELD mandate and the emergence of robust GPS-based visibility tools in trucking has opened new doors to connect with carriers.
Tucker recognizes the value that these tools could bring to our customers if deployed correctly and, in 2018, we launched our visibility initiative – with the goal of digitally tracking 100% of our truckload shipments. Why? Because we are committed to being the best partners and advisors for our customers and want to continue adding value to their businesses. Visibility brings data, which we can cut, dissect, and make adjustments accordingly – leading to better execution, customer service, and control of the work we do. Check out our journey to 100% digital, GPS-based visibility below.
Tucker's Journey to 100% Digital, GPS-Based Truckload Visibility
In 2018, with fewer than 5% of truckloads electronically tracked, we decided to make electronic visibility a priority.
An internal team was created to lead the company to 100% digital, GPS-based truckload visibility.
In 2019, we named “visibility” our ISO quality objective for the year, introducing benchmarks, audits, and added focus.
When faced with driver and carrier behavior modification challenges, we doubled down, introducing new technology partners and adding reinforcements to the operation.
Today, we are still committed to reaching 100% visibility.

Real-time visibility is just a start
Once we’re connected, we can improve scheduling and proactively alter appointment times to avoid delays, fines, and disappointment. Tucker can also use the increased visibility and technology to avoid warehouse overtime and mitigate issues, such as temperature excursions and security breaches, as they arise. But, first, you have to have the connection — and we’ve made it.
“Gone are the days of tracking freight through a game of ‘whisper down the lane.’ By digitally connecting to our diverse carrier base, we offer our customers real-time location updates, predictive data, and better insights into their businesses. We’re finding savings, identifying costly behaviors and trends, and improving lane performance.”
-Jeff Tucker, CEO, Tucker Company Worldwide
As we alluded to above, we plan to integrate other mission-critical data like temperature readings, humidity, security, and timely and automated notifications when a shipment might be running late so we can intervene early and manage by exception. The possibilities are endless.
